Los Angeles Chargers add Canadian defensive lineman Christian Covington to practice roster

The Los Angeles Chargers have added Canadian defensive lineman Christian Covington to their practice roster one day after releasing him as part of their training camp cuts.

The 28-year-old made 52 total tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, and one forced fumble with the team in 2021. He dressed for 16 games with the club and made three starts along their defensive line.

Covington has dressed for 98 career games as a member of the Houston Texans, Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals, and Los Angeles Chargers, recording 184 total tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, two knockdowns, and two forced fumbles.

The son of Canadian Football Hall of Fame defensive lineman Grover Covington was born in Vancouver, played for Vancouver College and earned a scholarship to Rice University in Houston.

Covington was selected in the sixth round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Texans and earned well over $7 million over the seven seasons since. The B.C. Lions picked Covington in the fifth round of the 2015 CFL Draft but Covington has spent his entire pro football career to date in the NFL.
