Pittsburgh Steelers release former Calgary Stampeders’ defensive end James Vaughters

The Pittsburgh Steelers have released former Calgary Stampeders’ defensive end James Vaughters.

The 29-year-old signed with the Steelers partway through training camp and appeared in two preseason games, recording one total tackle.

Vaughters dressed for ten games with the Atlanta Falcons in 2021 and recorded eight total tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble before being released in May. He spent the previous two years with the Chicago Bears and made 25 total tackles, two tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks over 17 games.

The six-foot-two, 255-pound edge rusher played in 33 games over two seasons with the Calgary Stampeders (2017-18) and recorded 50 tackles, 11 sacks, and eight special teams tackles. He also won a Grey Cup as a member of the team in 2018.

The Stanford product had brief stints with the Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots, and San Diego Chargers before dressing for his first CFL game.
