The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have named Dane Evans as the starting quarterback for their Week 12 matchup with the Toronto Argonauts, returning him to his spot under centre after a two-week absence.

Evans has been battling a shoulder injury suffered early in the team’s first game against Toronto in Week 9 and was unable to dress for the Week 10 rematch. He was a limited participant in practice last week and returned to the lineup for the team’s narrow loss to the Montreal Alouettes, though he was relegated to an emergency third-string role.

Backup Matthew Shiltz has filled in admirably whilst Evans has been sidelined, completing 41-of-58 passes for 479 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in two starts. He posted a 1-1 record.

Evans started each of Hamilton’s first eight games this season, completing 67.4 percent of his passes for 2,229 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He has also carried the ball 27 times for 115 yards, leading the team to a 2-6 record.

Hamilton is scheduled to face off against the Argos on Friday at 7:30 p.m. EDT at  BMO Field. With a victory, the 3-7 Ticats could create a three-way tie for first place in the East Divison.
