Saskatchewan Roughriders’ receiver Duke Williams suffered a sprained hip injury against the B.C. Lions this past week and will be out “at least a week if not more,” according to head coach Craig Dickenson.

Williams made two catches for 42 yards in Saskatchewan’s 28-10 loss prior to sustaining the injury. He has made 29 receptions for 480 yards and four touchdowns on the season and leads the team in the latter two categories.

The six-foot-three, 225-pound target has missed two previous games this season and was replaced at field-side slotback by Canadian receivers Mitch Picton and Kian Schaffer-Baker for those contests, respectively.

Williams has had an eventful season in Saskatchewan, incurring a one-game suspension for throwing a helmet at an opponent and being fined by the CFL for celebrating a Week 10 touchdown by eating nachos with fans. A fan in Riderville came to Williams’ defence by setting up a GoFundMe campaign to cover the cost of the fine, while another fan trolled the league by sending an order of nachos to their head office.

The Riders (5-5) are scheduled to visit the B.C. Lions (8-1) on Friday, Aug. 26 with kickoff slated for 10:30 p.m. EDT.
