Riders fan sends nachos to CFL head office after Duke Williams fined for touchdown celebration

CFL commissioner Randy Ambrosie has guacamole on his face after slapping Saskatchewan Roughriders’ receiver Duke Williams with a fine for a viral nacho-eating touchdown celebration, but one Rider fan thought he deserved a nice lunch anyway.

Matthew McGillivray, who identifies himself in his Twitter bio as a Saskatchewan season ticket holder since 2013 and shareholder since 2017, took to social media on Friday to share an image of a Skip The Dishes delivery of nachos he sent directly to the CFL head office in Toronto.

The free lunch was accompanied by a hand-written message, reading “I hope you enjoy these nachos as much as we enjoyed Duke’s celebration — signed Rider Nation.” The delivery service also included a drawing of a stalk of wheat.

Williams went viral last week for his celebration after scoring the go-ahead touchdown in Edmonton, hopping the barricade at Commonwealth Stadium to enter field-level seating and recline while enjoying a plate of nachos taken from a visiting Rider fan.

By entering fan seating, the celebration violated the CFL’s security protocol and incurred a fine on Thursday. As per league policy, the amount of the fine was not disclosed.

Unfortunately, McGillivray’s attempt to poke fun at the league for the excessive punishment was stopped at the doorstep, as there was reportedly no one in the league office on Friday afternoon to accept his food offering.

The nachos did not go to waste, however, as the delivery driver was given permission to enjoy the free meal or give it to a person in need once he had snapped a picture.
