Calgary Stampeders release starting defensive back Raheem Wilson

The Calgary Stampeders have released starting defensive back Raheem Wilson.

The 28-year-old dressed for all six games with the club this season, making four starts at safety and two starts at field-side cornerback. He recorded 19 defensive tackles.

“We appreciate everything Raheem has done during his time with the Stampeders and we wish him the best,” said team president and general manager John Hufnagel in a statement.

Wilson started all 14 regular season games with the team in 2021 and made 52 defensive tackles, one special teams tackles, and one interception. He was a full-time starter at field-side cornerback as a rookie in 2019 and recorded 36 defensive tackles, one special teams tackle, two interceptions, and one forced fumble.

The Stampeders fell to 4-2 this past week following a home loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers by a score of 35-28. The club is set to visit the Ottawa Redblacks (1-6) on Friday night at TD Place Stadium with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. EDT.
