Saskatchewan Roughriders’ offensive lineman Dan Clark suffered a broken fibula during his team’s Week 2 victory over the Edmonton Elks, he revealed in a statement on Twitter.

Saturday evening I broke my fibula and shifted my ankle bone. Surgery was completed Sunday afternoon and it went very well. Each day brings a new challenge that will I will face head on with the goal to be back on the field with my brothers. To the outpouring of kind wishes, concern, and the love sent my way….. THANK YOU!

Clark was hit low by an Edmonton defender who was looking to make a play on running back Jamal Morrow. He was carted off the field in visible distress as he was taken to the locker room.

The six-foot-two, 310-pound lineman has dressed for 127 games with his hometown Roughriders over an eleven-year career spanning ten seasons. He was named a CFL all-star at centre in 2019 when the Riders posted a league-best 13-5 regular season record.

It remains unclear who will replace the 34-year-old, though the most likely candidate is Logan Bandy who was named a Canada West all-star at centre with the University of Calgary Dinos in 2021. He was a fifth-round pick of the Riders in last year’s CFL Draft.

The Riders currently sit tied atop the West Division with a 2-0 record alongside the Calgary Stampeders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Saskatchewan losing Clark soured the win for quarterback Cody Fajardo who will have to take snaps from a new centre for the foreseeable future.
