Long-time Alouettes receiver B.J. Cunningham cut by Ottawa Redblacks

The Ottawa Redblacks have released American receiver B.J. Cunningham as part of the CFL’s mandatory training camp roster cutdown.

The 32-year-old Cunningham is a veteran of six CFL seasons, all with the Montreal Alouettes. He signed with the team in 2015, following a three-year stint in the NFL and racked up 272 receptions for 3,741 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns in 72 career games. He has also rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries throughout his career.

A product of Columbus, Ohio, Cunningham appeared in nine games for the Als last season, posting 474 receiving yards, on 36 catches, to go with 112 yards after the catch, and a touchdown. He signed with Ottawa as a free agent this offseason but was rendered expendable by the team’s plan to start two Canadians in the receiving corps.
