One day after opening the preseason with a 30-20 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at IG Field, the Edmonton Elks have announced that seven players have been released as part of mandatory roster cutdowns.

American receiver Dominic Davis, defensive backs Floyd Redfield and Stefan Claiborne, defensive lineman Nathan Brisson-Fast, as well as National running backs Alex Gayle and Kevin Dubois, and defensive back Shaydon Phillip all received their release on Saturday.

The most notable name released was Phillip, who spent 10 games with the team last season and recorded four special teams tackles. The native of St. Albert was undrafted out of the University of Alberta and joined the Elks after spending 2021 training camp with the Calgary Stampeders.
