Argos sign 2022 second-round pick Deionte Knight, add Canadian cornerback Arjen Colquhoun to retired list

The Toronto Argonauts have added one blue-chip Canadian talent and lost another, signing 2022 second-round pick Deionte Knight on Friday while adding veteran cornerback Arjen Colquhoun to the retired list.

A six-foot-four, 275-pound defensive lineman, Knight tallied 52 tackles, 13 for loss, 10 sacks and two forced fumbles in his fourth year at Western University, helping the Mustangs win the Vanier Cup. The Ajax, Ontario native won the J.P. Metras Trophy last season, awarded to the Most Outstanding Down Lineman in U Sports. Knight finished his collegiate career with 96 tackles and 13.5 sacks (2018-2021).

The Argos selected Knight with the 10th overall pick in the 2022 CFL Draft. He joins the team after attending two NFL rookie mini-camps with the Washington Commanders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The 29-year-old Colquhoun joined Toronto in February of 2020 after three seasons in Edmonton and a 2019 campaign that saw the defensive back record 16 defensive tackles, two special teams tackles and one interception in 10 games. He was limited by injury in his lone season with the Argonauts, managing just five total tackles in seven games.

The Windsor, Ontario native was drafted by Edmonton in the second round of the 2017 CFL Draft. In 31 career games, he’s tallied 52 defensive tackles, five special teams tackles and two interceptions.

The six-foot, 188-pound cornerback played four years at Michigan State University, including a trip to the College Football Playoffs as a senior, and over the course of 26 career games racked up 57 total tackles, one sack, three interceptions and two forced fumbles.
