Ottawa Redblacks release Canadian DT Ese Mrabure among eight other transactions

The Ottawa Redblacks have released veteran Canadian defensive tackle Ese Mrabure amidst a flurry of moves Friday.

The 29-year-old native of North York, Ont. originally signed with the team ahead of the 2021 season, playing in six games without recording a statistic.

A first-round pick of the B.C. Lions in the 2015 CFL Draft, Mrabure has played six seasons with the Lions, Saskatchewan Roughriders, Calgary Stampeders and Redblacks. In 57 career games, he has recorded 43 defensive tackles and six sacks.

Also released by the team were Global defensive back Tony Anderson and American running back De’Lance Turner. Quarterback Taryn Christion has also retired.

In addition, Ottawa has brought in five Americans to help flesh out their roster ahead of training camp, signing Cincinnati linebacker Bryan Wright, William & Mary defensive lineman Will Kiely, Abilene Christian defensive back Adonis Davis, Central Michigan quarterback David Moore, and Southern Miss defensive back Ky’el Hemby.
