The Edmonton Elks have released former fourth-round NFL draft pick receiver Martavis Bryant as well as linebacker Tyrell Robinson.

Bryant recently joined Fan Controlled Football, a new league that also features former prominent NFL players such as Terrell Owens and Johnny Manziel. In March, Bryant said in an interview that his decision to play in the CFL was “about proving to people what I can still do.”

The receiver was under contract with the Toronto Argonauts in 2021, though he spent the season on the club’s suspended list after not reporting to training camp. The Argos officially released him in December 2021.

The Clemson product was originally a fourth-round selection of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2014 NFL Draft. He recorded 145 receptions for 2,183 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns as a member of the Steelers and Raiders over five seasons (2014-18).

The 30-year-old showed flashes throughout his time in the NFL, setting career-highs of 765 receiving yards in 2015, 50 receptions in 2015 and 2016, and eight touchdowns in 2014.

Bryant suited up alongside NFL stars like DeAndre Hopkins and Sammy Watkins in college with the Tigers. His strongest season in college saw the Junior wideout average almost 20 yards per reception, amassing 828 yards on just 42 catches and scoring seven touchdowns.

Robinson also signed with Edmonton in February after spending time with San Diego Strike Force of the IFL.
