Former Bombers defensive end, 1990 Grey Cup champion Quency Williams passes away at 61

Former CFL defensive end Quency Williams has passed away suddenly after a heart attack, Bombers’ senior writer Ed Tait revealed on Twitter Thursday. He was just 61.

A native of Douglasville, Georgia, Williams graduated from Auburn University and went on to spend six seasons in the CFL with the Calgary Stampeders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Over that span, he played 68 CFL games and recorded 221 tackles and 30 sacks.

First signing with the Stamps in 1987, Williams’ best year came in his second season with the team, when he recorded 59 total tackles and nine sacks. He signed with the Bombers ahead of the 1989 season, adding 65 tackles and eight sacks in the follow up. The next year, Williams proved to be a crucial part of Winnipeg Grey Cup-winning season, finishing third on the team with six sacks.

Williams’ would play just one game for the Bombers in 1992 and finished his career after briefly signing with B.C. Lions. He would go on to settle in the Winnipeg area.
