Waterloo OL Spencer Andrews not at CFL national combine, has retired from football

University of Waterloo offensive lineman Spencer Andrews is not at the CFL’s national combine this weekend because he recently chose to retire from football, per source.

The six-foot-five, 290-pound blocker played left tackle for the Warriors and was invited to the East-West Bowl in 2020, though it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He was originally a member of the 2021 CFL Draft class but was one of many players who opted out, delaying his draft year to 2022.

Andrews was expected to be a mid-round selection in this year’s draft as part of an offensive line group that has no clear-cut top prospect. He was included in the initial wave of invites to this year’s national combine, which indicates that scouts around the league were keen to see him showcase his skills live.

The native of Waterloo, Ont. dressed for 28 games over five years with the Warriors, helping revitalize a program that has produced a number of top prospects this year including quarterback Tre Ford and defensive back Tyrell Ford.
