Indianapolis Colts add former CFL receiver Brian Bratton to coaching staff

The Indianapolis Colts have added former CFL receiver Brian Bratton to their coaching staff as an offensive quality control coach.

The 39-year-old started his coaching career as the wide receivers coach at North Greenville University in Tigerville, S.C. He held the role for two years (2013-14) before moving to Furman University, his alma mater, and serving as the wide receivers coach for two seasons (2015-16).

Bratton added the role of special teams coordinator at Furman (2017-20) before becoming the team’s pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach in 2021. He was slated to serve as Furman’s co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach in 2022 before being hired by the Colts.

The five-foot-ten, 185-pound target was a member of the Montreal Alouettes for six seasons (2007-12) following brief stints with the Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, NFL Europe, and the Arena Football League. He made 263 catches for 3,122 yards and 23 touchdowns as a member of the Als and won two Grey Cups (2009, 2010).

The Colts have a number of CFL connections on their coaching staff, including offensive coordinator Marcus Brady and quarterbacks coach Scott Milanovich. Brady was Bratton’s teammate for two seasons with the Als (2007-08) before serving as his receivers coach (2009-11) and offensive coordinator (2012).

Indianapolis narrowly missed the postseason with a 9-8 record in 2021 but finished No. 8 in scoring (26.5 points per game) and No. 2 in rushing yards (149.4 per game). Second-year running back Jonathan Taylor had a breakout season, rushing 332 times for a league-leading 1,811 yards and 18 touchdowns.

The Colts also hired legendary receiver Reggie Wayne as the team’s new wide receivers coach.
