A number of Grey Cup-bound CFL fans have taken to social media to accuse a Regina hotel of cancelling their reservations without notification.
B.C. Lions Den Pawdcast host Brian Wawryshyn was the first to complain publicly, claiming he’d spoken to a Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Regina East Gate employee who indicated that all Grey Cup reservations had been cancelled because the original prices were too low.
The @HamptonByHilton Inn & Suites Eastgate in Regina has cancelled all reservations for Grey Cup that were made by fans across the country. They have not informed fans of this. 1/2…

Furthermore they told me on the phone that it was Grey Cup week and that the manager decided the price was too low and he canceled all the reservations…boycott this shady property!!! 2/2…#CFL

Wawryshyn’s tweets drew a number of responses from CFL fans across the country who alleged their reservations had also been cancelled without notification from the hotel.
Mine was cancelled. And we weren’t told about it.

It may not be illegal but it is highly unethical for them to do this. While I called to confirm my rooms had also been cancelled, I still have yet to receive written confirmation that this had been done. What if I had shown up at the hotel on the day I was to check-in?

3DownNation spoke to a hotel representative via telephone on Wednesday afternoon who denied that any Grey Cup-related cancellations were taking place. The representative also indicated that the hotel’s manager is currently out of the country and will not be back in Regina for two months.
Hotel rooms are always at a premium when the CFL’s smallest city plays host to the league’s championship game. Regina reportedly sold out of hotel rooms eleven months before the 2013 Grey Cup took place, a game the hometown Saskatchewan Roughriders won over the visiting Hamilton Tiger-Cats by a score of 45-23.
The 109th Grey Cup is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022 at Mosaic Stadium. The facility was originally set to host the 108th Grey Cup in 2020 but the CFL season was cancelled due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
