High school student trades impressive Bombers-inspired metal shop project for tickets from Adam Bighill

A Winnipeg high school student has turned his prowess in the metal shop into ticket for the Blue Bombers’ 2022 season-opener.

On Thursday, Mike Johnston, a welding teacher at R.B. Russell Vocational High School, shared photos on Twitter of a firepit designed and created by a Grade 11 student named Dallas. The project, completed for school credit, was inspired by the student’s love of the Grey Cup champion Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Most Outstanding Defensive Player Adam Bighill.

In the post, Johnston wondered if the star defender might like to exchange a couple of tickets to the Bombers season-opener for the one-of-a-kind piece of patio decor. Within minute, Bighill posted a reply.

The tickets will clearly not be wasted on a young super-fan like Dallas and the only-in-the-CFL interaction was worth more than any grade he might have received on the project — which we can only assume was a A+.

The Welding Technology Program at R.B. Russell is a four-year program which allows students to graduate already eligible for Canadian Welding Bureau certification and it is clear that students like Dallas have a very bright future in the profession.

We can’t wait to see Bighill chilling by his new firepit this upcoming summer, hopefully after Dallas has cheered him on to victory at IG field.
