B.C. Lions officially bring back Canadian defensive lineman David Menard

The B.C. Lions have brought back a familiar face along the defensive line with the signing of national David Menard.

The 31-year-old rejoins the Lions after spending the 2021 season with the Montreal Alouettes during which he registered a career-high eight sacks to go with 18 defensive tackles and two forced fumbles. He earned the East Division’s nomination for Most Outstanding Canadian, which was eventually won by B.C.’s linebacker Bo Lokombo.

A fourth-round draft pick of the Lions in the 2014 CFL Draft, the native of Chicoutimi, Que. suited up for 94 games with B.C. and was a valuable piece of the defensive line rotation. Menard recorded 52 defensive tackles, 18 sacks, and three forced fumbles in his six seasons in black and orange.

Prior to turning pro, Menard played four seasons with the University of Montreal Carabins. Along with earning Quebec Student Sports Network Rookie of the Year in 2010, he was named a conference all-star in 2010, 2012 and 2013.
