‘I’m going to ride with Cody’: Kyran Moore backs Riders’ QB Fajardo despite criticism

TSN analyst Glen Suitor turned more than a few heads with his recent suggestion that the Saskatchewan Roughriders might consider pursuing quarterback Trevor Harris in free agency to upgrade that position.

One of those heads turning came from re-signed Riders receiver Kyran Moore. Even back home in Alabama with his daughter crawling all over him, the guy they call ‘Swerve’ admitted to hearing the speculation and criticism about his quarterback.

“I see it, we don’t necessarily talk about it as much amongst the players. When I signed, one of the first [people] I heard from was Cody. Cody hit me up first and explained some heartfelt things that he had said towards me,” Moore said.

“I’m going to ride with Cody, regardless, because I feel like he’s the quarterback to get the job done and he’s a winner. No matter what people say about his throwing ability or whatever, Cody gets the job done — as a receiver, that’s all you can ask for.”

Moore sounds like a man asking for patience with a Roughriders’ offence that’s still transitioning back to normal after the lost 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“That year off messed up a lot of timing and also messed us up as far as repping the playbook because we didn’t have a pre-season,” Moore said.

“We didn’t have the right time to come along with each other just to get used to Cody throwing. Obviously, we had a year with him but then we also took a year off so people come back different as far as change of speed or throwing power.”

It would be unrealistic to expect Moore or any other Riders’ receiver to admit that Suitor is right to suggest that quarterbacking was part of Saskatchewan’s problems in 2021. However, Moore seemed sincere in his support of his teammate and seems to think critics should lay off his QB.

And he hardly seems ready to provide any enthusiastic endorsement of Harris in green and white anytime soon.
