The Winnipeg Blue Bombers — or at least their team bus — appeared in a new episode of The Simpsons on Sunday night.

The episode featured the Springfield Atoms football team dominating their opponents by a score of 42-3 when the visiting defence quits mid-game to “try their luck in the Canadian Football League.” ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter appeared in the episode in a guest role, voicing himself.
This isn’t the first time that The Simpsons has reference the CFL or Winnipeg. An episode from the show’s third season depicts Homer watching the CFL draft, during which the announcers explain that Saskatchewan is on the clock.

The show referenced the Manitoba capital in its seventh season when a disgruntled father tells his children that he will not take them to Cape Canaveral unless they keep their hands to themselves. When Nelson Muntz slaps him through the car window, the man yells that he is turning the car around and driving back to Winnipeg.

Homer visited Winnipeg in the show’s sixteenth season to obtain free prescription drugs for the residents of Springfield. Upon his arrival to the city, he is met with the following sign.

The Simpsons has been known to poke fun at all aspects of popular culture — politics, media, fashion, technology, etc. — and it’s nice to see they haven’t forgotten about the Canadian Football League over the show’s 33-season run.
