One of the Canadian Football League’s most exciting players is getting a look from the NFL’s worst team

The Jacksonville Jaguars brought in current current Ottawa Redblacks’ returner DeVonte Dedmon for a visit on New Year’s Eve. The 26-year old is signed through the 2022 season, but is taking advantage of the NFL option window to explore opportunities south of the border.

Dedmon has already worked out for the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers.

The William & Mary product was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Special Teams Player in 2021 after recording 48 punt returns for 737 yards and two touchdowns, 11 kickoff returns for 1,223 yards and one touchdown, and four missed field goals for 103 yards.

Earlier this year, he shattered the record set by Canadian Football Hall of Fame return specialist Henry ‘Gizmo’ Williams as the fastest player to reach five career return touchdowns — Dedmon needed just 15 games, while Williams needed 18.

The NFL option window opened on Monday, Dec. 13, 2021 and will remain open until 12:01 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022. CFL players are able to work out for NFL teams during this period even if they are under contract with a team north of the border.
