The Ottawa Redblacks are reportedly set to hire Shawn Burke as the club’s new general manager, according to Tim Baines of the Ottawa Sun.

Burke is currently the Senior Director of Personnel & Co-Manager of Football Operations for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The Guelph native negotiates most of Hamilton’s contracts and takes the lead on the club’s strategy in free agency. He has been biding his time with the Ticats for over a decade, originally serving as the club’s Director of Community Relations and Communications.

Burke will be tasked with returning the Redblacks to respectability after two miserable seasons during which the club compiled a 6-26 regular season record. Marcel Desjardins, who was hired as the first general manager in club history in January 2013, was fired in October and replaced by assistant general manager Jeremy Snyder on an interim basis.

It has been previously reported that Ottawa will retain head coach Paul LaPolice for the 2022 season.

The CFL released its comprehensive list of over 300 pending free agents this past week, which could provide the Redblacks with an opportunity to quickly inject some talent into their roster.

Snyder already re-signed over a dozen of Ottawa’s players, though some key players such as Avery Ellis, Mark Korte, Nolan MacMillan, and Antoine Pruneau remain pending free agents.
