Redblacks hoping to name new GM shortly after Grey Cup: report

The Ottawa Redblacks are getting ready to launch the search for their next general manager, according to TSN’s Dave Naylor.

Naylor indicated that there could be as many as 10 candidates for the job, with the team hoping to conduct interviews in the first week of December and make a decision in the week following the Grey Cup.

Jeremy Snyder has been the team’s interim general manager since the Redblacks fired Marcel Desjardins on October 25th following the team’s 2-9 start to the season.

Desjardins was hired in January 2013 as the first general manager in team history. He finished his tenure in Ottawa with a 46-71-2 record in the regular season helping the team to three Grey Cups appearances.

They won a championship in 2016 after finishing 8-9-1 with Henry Burris beating his former team, the Calgary Stampeders, 39-33 in overtime.

Things in Ottawa have fallen off quickly since then with the club finishing 3-15 in 2019 after a 2-0 start, which led to head coach Rick Campbell mutually parting ways with the team at the end of the season.

This season has not gone any better with the club sitting in the basement of the East Division standings at 2-11. New head coach Paul LaPolice was unable to jumpstart Ottawa’s poor offence with a rotation of quarterbacks including Matt Nichols, Dominique Davis, Caleb Evans, and Devlin ‘Duck’ Hodges struggling to move the football.
