The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have made a quarterback change ahead of their Week 15 games against the Montreal Alouettes.

Sean McGuire will make his first career CFL start over Zach Collaros, who is being rested ahead of the playoffs. Winnipeg clinched first place in the West Division three weeks ago with a 45-0 victory over the B.C. Lions and will host the West Final at IG Field on Sunday, Dec. 5.

McGuire has been with Winnipeg since 2019, dressing for 30 games in a backup role. He has completed four-of-ten pass attempts for 72 yards while rushing 31 times for 47 yards and eight touchdowns.

Collaros led the Blue Bombers to a win over the Als in Week 14 and played the full game despite the contest being meaningless in the standings, throwing for 280 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

The 33-year-old is considered a front-runner to be named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player and has completed 70.2 percent of his passes for 3,112 yards, 20 touchdowns, and six interceptions this season.

Saturday’s game in Montreal will mark the first time since October 2019 that someone other than Collaros has started a game for the Blue Bombers at quarterback. Matt Nichols started the first nine games of the 2019 season, followed by eight starts from Chris Streveler.

O’Shea also indicated that veteran right tackle “looks good” after missing the last three games due to a lower body injury.
