‘I have a job’: Paul LaPolice claims ‘no’ interest in being Redblacks head coach and GM

Redblacks head coach Paul LaPolice claims he does not want the general manager’s title added in the nation’s capital.

LaPolice was hired by Marcel Desjardins in December 2019, but the former Ottawa GM was recently fired leaving the position open. The 51-year-old bench boss described his relationship with Desjardins as “excellent.”

“I enjoyed him and unfortunately that’s part of this business — it’s a change business, football,” LaPolice said on TSN 1200 radio in Ottawa.

“He was outstanding, I enjoyed every minute with him and he was always down to earth. Always tried to help in any way, shape or form, gave input and gave me a lot of responsibility.”

Assistant general manager Jeremy Snyder, who has been with the organization since 2013, has assumed the role of interim GM for the remainder of the 2021 season. Jean-Marc Edmé, who has been with the organization since 2016, is the interim assistant general manager.

When it comes to filling the vacancy on a full-time basis, LaPolice said he’s sure to be involved in the conversations, but he has dismissed interest in becoming a head coach and GM.

“No, I have a job,” LaPolice said. “I’m content where I’m at as a coach and offensive coordinator. I certainly relish that opportunity to be the coach.”

During LaPolice’s first season in Ottawa, the Redblacks have a league-worst 2-10 record.
