‘Jeremiah will start for us’: Orlondo Steinauer names Masoli starter against Edmonton in Week 13

Jeremiah Masoli will once again be under centre for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats this week against Edmonton.

Masoli got the majority of the work in the Ticats 32-3 win over Ottawa in Week 12, with Dane Evans getting some time in as well. Head coach Orlondo Steinauer says we could see a repeat of that Friday at Commonwealth Stadium.

“We planned on playing both quarterbacks last week, that’s something [offensive coordinator] Tommy [Condell] and I talked about and they were aware of that. This week we are still putting together the plan, I would not rule that out that you would see them both. Jeremiah will start for us, though.”

Masoli only had three incompletions while throwing for 320 yards and two touchdowns in Hamilton’s 32-3 win over Ottawa. Steinauer is happy with how Masoli has progressed since returning from injury.

I think he has been a little bit sharper but I think that would be our expectation for Jeremiah and if you asked him personally he would expect to be a little bit sharper as he goes through,” Steinauer explained.

“Overall just his reads, his progression, and how he’s feeling we would expect that to ramp up a little bit and I think he’d be the first to tell you that also.”

For the season Masoli has 1,281 yards passing with five touchdowns and four interceptions. The 33-year-old has missed most of the season with a rib injury suffered against Saskatchewan in Week 2. Evans went 1-for-3 through the air while getting three carries as well.

Hamilton (5-5) heads West to face Edmonton (2-7) Friday Night at Commonwealth.
