Montreal Alouettes’ quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. showed his support for Montreal Canadiens’ goaltender Carey Price on Monday.

Adams Jr. wore a Canadiens sweater before kickoff of the Thanksgiving Day game between the Redblacks and Alouettes. The gesture came just two days before the Canadiens will open their regular season against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Price recently entered the NHL/NHLPA’s player assistance program, which was established in 1996 to allow players and their families to seek help for substance abuse, mental health, and/or therapy. He will reportedly be away from the team for at least 30 days.

The 34-year-old has spent his entire NHL career with the Canadiens since being selected No. 5 overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He has been credited with 360 career regular season wins while recording a 2.50 goals against average and a .917 save percentage.

Price has also had success at the international stage, winning an Olympic gold medal in 2014 while representing Team Canada.

Adams Jr. led the Alouettes to a comeback win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in Week 9, keeping the team on pace to make the playoffs. He has connected on 138-of-232 pass attempts this season for 1,911 yards, 14 touchdowns, and nine interceptions this year.

The former East Division all-star has become the face of Montreal’s franchise after taking over as the starter from Antonio Pipkin in 2019. It’s clear he cares about the greater sports scene in Montreal and supporting the Canadiens’ most well-known player as navigates a challenging time off the ice.
