Lucky Whitehead’s hand X-ray shows two gruesome broken fingers

B.C. Lions star Lucky Whitehead shared the X-ray of his broken hand and it revealed two grossly broken fingers.

Whitehead underwent surgery on Wednesday, October 6. His timeline for recovery is two-to-four weeks.

The injury took place on a hit from Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive back Brandon Alexander in the Lions Week 9 loss at BC Place. The 29-year-old finished that game with a wrapped hand and wrist — clearly injured — finishing the contest with zero receptions.

Whitehead entered Week 9 as the leading receiver in the CFL with 36 receptions for 665 yards and four touchdowns. He also returned a missed field goal 119 yards for a score in Week 6 in a win against Ottawa.

Through 23 CFL games the five-foot-10, 177-pound speedster has 88 catches for 1,186 yards and six touchdowns and 11 carries for 104 yards and one touchdown. He’s an explosive returner with 16 punt returns for 105 yards, 21 kick-off returns for 596 yards and one major along with three missed field goal returns for 181 yards and one touchdown.

Prior to coming north of the border, Whitehead had nine catches for 64 yards through parts of three seasons with the Dallas Cowboys and earned more than $1 million while playing in the NFL.
