Even though Trevor Harris was hoping to start against the Ottawa Redblacks in Week 9, Edmonton has left him off the game day roster.

Taylor Cornelius will be the starting quarterback in the nation’s capital on Tuesday night.

Harris was activated from the six-game injured list on Saturday, September 25 and practiced the same day. The move came as a surprise given that general manager Brock Sunderland recently indicated that there was “no timetable” for Harris’ return to the lineup.

He initially sustained a neck injury in Edmonton’s Week 6 game against the Calgary Stampeders. The veteran pivot was subsequently cleared for practice early that following week and was on-field both Tuesday and Wednesday.

However, the injury slowly progressed, resulting in Harris removing himself from practice late on Wednesday due to increasing pain and other symptoms.

The 35-year-old was added to the six-game injured list on Thursday, September 16th. He did not dress for the Elks loss to Winnipeg in Week 7 and Edmonton had a bye in Week 8.

Harris has started five games this season, leading the Elks to a 2-3 record. He has completed 74.1 percent for 1,481 yards, six touchdowns, and five interceptions.

The six-foot-three, 215-pound passer has thrown for 23,663 yards, 126 touchdowns, and 57 interceptions over nine CFL seasons with Toronto, Ottawa, and Edmonton.

Edmonton signed Harris as a free agent in February 2019 following a three-year stint with the Redblacks.
