Hamilton Tiger-Cats quarterback Dane Evans will be out four-to-six weeks with a lower body injury, according to head coach Orlondo Steinauer.

Evans nor the Ticats are exactly sure what play initially caused the setback. He described the issue as being painful and inhibiting his ability to throw. After finishing his post-game media availability — it’s rare for an injured player to do a press conference, especially following a loss — Evans met with trainers and in subsequent days underwent an MRI to determine the exact injury and severity of it.

“He was very disappointed, he needed some time to himself. Fortunately his wife is up here. He needed a couple days but in true Dane fashion he was in early and wants to know how he can help,” Steinauer said.

“It’ll be different for him not being able to contribute. I saw a different Dane today where he was energetic and very supportive. Tough blow, feel bad for him. He’s in better spirits today, but after we got the MRI results it was very clear he wasn’t going to be available to us.”

Midway through the fourth quarter in Week 6, Toronto Argonauts defensive lineman Shawn Oakman sacked Evans for the third time. That tackle sent him to the sideline in pain and Hamilton’s starting QB did not return to the football game. Through approximately three-and-a-half quarters, Evans completed 70.4 percent of his passes for 192 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

The 27-year-old had led the Tabbies to two wins in two starts prior to be injured against the Argos. Through parts of five games in 2021, Evans has completed 66 percent of his passes for 644 yards with five touchdowns and one interception.
