The Ottawa Redblacks appear to be preparing Dominique Davis to start in Week 6 against the B.C. Lions.

During practice on Tuesday, Davis was taking reps with the first-team offence instead of Matt Nichols, according to TSN 1200 radio play-by-play man AJ Jakubec.

LaPolice pulled Nichols after he started completing two-of-five pass attempts for 23 yards and one interception in Week 5 against the Montreal Alouettes. The turnover came as a result of a tipped pass, which was then caught by second-year halfback Greg Reid.

Nichols was signed to take over the starting job from Davis, who started the majority of Ottawa’s games in 2019. The 32-year-old completed Davis 200-of-312 pass attempts for 2,216 yards, five touchdowns, and 14 interceptions while rushing 31 times for 115 yards.

Davis finished 23-of-33 for 291 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He added eight carries for 38 yards and one major on the ground. Ottawa lost to Montreal by a score of 51-29 in the nation’s capital.

The Redblacks have struggled to move the football this year and are currently at the bottom of virtually all offensive statistical categories. It seems as though LaPolice is hoping Davis can boost his struggling unit.
