Former Saskatchewan Roughriders linebacker Sam Eguavoen has made the Miami Dolphins 53-man roster again.

In three pre-season games, the 28-year-old made 15 tackles, four sacks, one safety and defended one pass. The six-foot-one, 236-pounder recorded 11 tackles, four sacks, and a safety in a 37-17 victory over Atlanta in Week 2 of the exhibition schedule.

Eguavoen is entering his third season in Miami having appeared in 32 games over the past two seasons with seven starts. He’s recorded 51 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, two knockdowns, and one fumble recovery in the regular season and it appears he’s on pace to do more damage in 2021.

The Texas Tech University product went unselected in the 2015 NFL Draft and signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders the following year. He became a household name over three seasons in Riderville, recording 173 total tackles, four sacks, two forced fumbles, and one interception over three seasons.

The Dolphins improved from 5-11 during Eguavoen’s first year to 10-6 in his second in Miami. However, the athletic linebacker didn’t play as much on defence as the coaching staff focused him on special teams in 2020. He played all 16 games as a core special teamer while recording nine tackles and defending on pass on defence.

Eguavoen has earned over $1.1 million through two seasons with the Dolphins.
