Star Canadian defensive tackle Cleyon Laing will not be available to play for the Redblacks against the B.C. Lions on Saturday, according to a report from Postmedia’s Tim Baines.
“Redblacks DL Cleyon Laing, listed on the injury report as “non-injury-related” all week, will not play vs. the Lions. Said Redblacks HC Paul LaPolice: ‘He has a family situation that we excused him to. He had to go home for a couple of days; now he’s in quarantine.'”
The 30-year-old is one of the CFL’s most impactful defensive tackles, posting 27 tackles and seven sacks in 15 games in 2019. Laing has been held off the box score in both of Ottawa’s games in 2021, but is an important Canadian starter.
Laing was briefly a member of the Redblacks in 2016 following an NFL stint with the Miami Dolphins. He won a Grey Cup with the team before rejoining the Argonauts in free agency in February 2017.
The Edmonton native has produced 144 career tackles along with 33 sacks and three fumbles in 89 games.
