Saskatchewan Health Authority warns of COVID exposure for Rider fans in Pil Country end zone during home-opener

Published on

Canada is facing a fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and the province of Saskatchewan is warning that some fans may have been exposed to the virus at the Roughriders’ sold out home opener on August 6.

There is at least one case of an infected person in attendance at the game in Regina, located in the Pil Country end zone section of Mosaic Stadium roughly between the hours of 5:30 to 11:30 p.m. Contact tracing for the August 6 game is ongoing, however given the location of the case this has proven difficult.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority is advising that all individuals in attendance – particularly those watching from the Pil Country end zone – during this date and time should:

  • Self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 until August 20, 2021;
  • If symptoms develop, start self-isolating immediately and seek testing; and
  • If you already feel unwell or were in contact with an ill individual while at the game or afterward self-isolate and seek testing immediately.

Self-isolation means you need to stay home, avoid contact with anyone who is not fully vaccinated — individuals who are considered fully vaccinated have received two doses of vaccine and are at least two weeks past their second dose — and stay away from work, school, stores, social events and any other public setting.

You may develop symptoms from two to 14 days following exposure to the virus that causes COVID-19, at which point fans are advised to call HealthLine 811, your physician or nurse practitioner.

More information on symptoms, next steps and immunization can be found on the Saskatchewan Health Authority website.

The Roughriders currently do not have a vaccine requirement for entrance to the stadium. The team plays at home again on Saturday night against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and announced earlier this week that the Labour Day Classic has sold out.
