Redblacks sign Canadian linebacker Frédéric Chagnon, release four

The Ottawa Redblacks have signed Canadian linebacker Frédéric Chagnon.

The six-foot-four, 233-pound defender was a third-round pick of the B.C. Lions in 2017 and played three seasons with the team, recording 26 special teams tackles. He signed with the Montreal Alouettes as a free agent in February 2020 but was cut by the team this past week.

The 28-year-old will help fill the void left by Canadian linebacker Christophe Mulumba-Tshimanga, who remains on the suspended list.

Ottawa also activated American offensive linemen Nick Buchanan and Jack Kramer from the suspended list as they’ve completed their quarantine. Head coach Paul LaPolice told the media it was possible the team would start three Americans along the offensive line, which means both players could be competing for a starting job.

The Redblacks also released the following four players.
