Bombers acquire veteran defensive back Alden Darby in trade with Argos

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have acquired American defensive back Alden Darby from the Toronto Argonauts in exchange for American offensive lineman Terry Poole.

The five-foot-11, 195-pound Darby joins the Bombers after three seasons with the Argos. Over 43 games with the double blue, including 40 starts, Darby registered 137 tackles, eight interceptions, three touchdowns, and one sack. He had 56 tackles and five interceptions in 17 games with Toronto in 2019.

Darby appeared in 50 games over four seasons at Arizona State University (2010-2013) and was a two-time All-Pac 12 player. He was signed by the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted NFL free agent in 2014 and has also had stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints, and Indianapolis Colts before he joined the Argos.

The 29-year-old Poole joined the Bombers in June of this year after stops in the XFL with the Houston Roughnecks and San Diego Fleet of the Alliance of American Football.

The six-foot-five, 325-pound lineman was a fourth-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in 2015 before joining the Miami Dolphins and Houston Texans between 2016-2017. The California native started his collegiate career at Monterey Peninsula College in California before a move to San Diego State where he was named a Mountain West second-team All-Star in his senior season for the Aztecs after starting all 12 games.
