Argos’ DL coach Mike Davis ‘stepping aside’ after six years in CFL

We may be on the eve of training camps opening across the CFL, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t some last second turmoil to deal with.

The Toronto Argonauts will be down one member of their coaching staff when players exit quarantine, after defensive line coach Mike Davis announced on Twitter that he would be leaving his post to pursue other career opportunities.

“After 6 great years in the CFL with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Toronto Argonauts, I am stepping aside to pursue other career opportunities,” Davis said. “I want to thank Chris Jones for giving me my first opportunity in CFL and Pinball Clemons, Ryan Dinwiddie and [John Murphy] for bringing me to Toronto.”

A coach and executive with extensive experience in Arena football, Davis first entered the CFL in 2016 as the Riders’ Manager of Player Personnel. In 2019, he returned to the field as defensive line coach, before jumping to Toronto during the 2020 offseason as part of the first staff of rookie head coach Ryan Dinwiddie.

While Davis’ new career remains unannounced, the Argos may have anticipated the announcement, with reports that veteran CFL coach Rich Stubler has been hired by the team for an undisclosed coaching role.
