Argonauts hire longtime CFL coach Rich Stubler

The Toronto Argonauts have hired longtime CFL coach Rich Stubler.

TSN reporter Dave Naylor has the details: Hearing that long-time CFL coach Rich Stubler is in Toronto and expected to take on a role with the Toronto Argos. Smart move by team management to add a coach who has been there, done that and seen it all.

Stubler has spent 25 years in the CFL as either a coordinator or head coach with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Edmonton Eskimos, Toronto Argonauts, Calgary Stampeders, and the B.C. Lions. Prior to the CFL, he had assistant coaching and defensive coordinating stops at Colorado, Colorado State, SMU, New Mexico State and the University of Oregon.

The 71-year-old Stubler first came to the CFL in 1983 as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats defensive coordinator. He has held the same position with the Toronto Argonauts, Edmonton Eskimos, B.C. Lions and Calgary Stampeders.

Stubler served as head coach in Toronto going 4-6 during the 2008 season before he was let go. He’s spent over three decades in the CFL, primarily as a defensive coordinator, winning five Grey Cup championships.
