Redblacks sign Canadian defensive lineman Stefan Charles

The Ottawa Redblacks have signed Canadian defensive lineman Stefan Charles, per league sources.

The 32-year-old Charles finished the 2019 season with the Edmonton Football Team. He was selected by the green and gold in the second round, 10th overall during the 2013 CFL Draft.

Charles played 49 NFL games registering 60 tackles, five sacks, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery over four seasons with the Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions. He spent training camp with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2017, Kansas City Chiefs in 2018 and Atlanta Falcons in 2019.

The six-foo-five, 323-pounder went unselected in the 2013 NFL draft, but the Tennessee Titans signed him to an undrafted free agent contract. Charles was assigned to the practice squad once training camp ended, however, the Bills signed him to their active roster that October. He earned over $3 million while playing in the NFL.

The Oshawa, Ontario native played U Sports football for the University of Regina Rams. Charles has ratio-breaking potential at the defensive tackle position.
