The Toronto Argonauts have acquired Canadian offensive lineman Cody Speller from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The teams also exchanged 2021 sixth-round draft picks.

Speller started eight games for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at guard in 2019 in the regular season. He then took over for an injured Michael Couture at centre in the postseason en route to a Grey Cup victory.

The McMaster product was set to become a free agent on February 9. Acquiring him now will allow Toronto to exclusively negotiate with him ahead of the free agent window.

The Blue Bombers signed Speller in 2018 as an undrafted free agent. He spent most of his rookie season on the practice roster but dressed for 13 games in 2019.

Winnipeg will now select 48th overall in the 2021 CFL draft, while Toronto will now pick 52nd overall.
