Official: Scott Milanovich resigns as head coach of Edmonton Football Team

Scott Milanovich has resigned as the head coach of the Edmonton Football Team. The news was first reported by TSN’s Matthew Scianitti.

Milanovich’s resignation came hours after he was rumoured to be a candidate for an assistant coaching role with the Indianapolis Colts.

Milanovich was hired by the Edmonton Football Team in December 2019 after a three-year stint as the quarterbacks coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Due to the cancellation of the 2020 CFL season, he never coached a game with the Green and Gold.

Former CFL quarterback and assistant coach Marcus Brady was named the offensive coordinator with the Indianapolis Colts last week. He and Milanovich have a long history from their time together in Montreal (2007-11) and Toronto (2012-16) during which they won three Grey Cups.

There were reports that the Edmonton Football Team had not been asked for permission by the Colts to speak with Milanovich as of Monday morning, but things evidently changed fast.

“Scott informed me this morning that he was resigning as the head coach of the Edmonton Football Team to accept a position in the NFL,” said general manager Brock Sunderland in a press release.

“It’s disappointing that he was never able to coach a game for our organization due to the pandemic. We wish Scott and his family all the best in his future endeavors.”
