The Redblacks may have just inked their starting running back for the 2021 season.

Timothy Flanders has re-signed with the team after originally joining the club in December 2019.

The 29-year-old spent three seasons in Winnipeg with Paul LaPolice — now the head coach of the Ottawa Redblacks — recording 96 carries for 541 yards and four touchdowns in 18 games. He was also used as a receiver out of the backfield and in the slot, catching 43 passes for 352 yards and three touchdowns.

Flanders spent a portion of the 2019 season on the practice roster in Calgary, though he did not dress for a regular season or postseason game.

Winnipeg started a Canadian running back throughout LaPolice’s tenure in Winnipeg. With an American expected to start in Ottawa, Flanders should be in the running for the starting role.

The Redblacks are in need of some addition firepower on offence and Flanders could be a weapon capable of providing the boost they need.
