Edmonton releases seven, including veteran receiver Kenny Shaw

The Edmonton Football Team made a flurry of roster moves on Saturday, adding seven players and releasing seven others.

The most notable addition is national defensive lineman Nate Anderson, a second-round pick of the Montreal Alouettes in 2019. The Missouri product played eight games as a rookie, recording four tackles.

The other additions are all American rookies: receiver Khayri Denny, receiver Earnest Edwards, defensive lineman Justin Cates, defensive back Nafees Lyon, defensive lineman Christian Rector, and defensive back Darius Williams.

Those cut by the team include American offensive lineman Justin Renfrow, American receiver T.J. Smith, American receiver Kenny Shaw, American defensive back Malcolm Washington, national linebacker Blair Smith, national receiver Alex Charette, and national defensive back Bryce Bartlett.

Shaw had a great season with the Toronto Argonauts in 2016, making 77 receptions for 1,004 yards and five touchdowns. He’s since posted limited production in stints with Ottawa and Saskatchewan.

Smith originally joined Edmonton in 2015 and has since appeared in 59 games, making 73 total tackles, one interception, and one forced fumble. The Mississauga native shouldn’t remain a free agent for long considering his prowess on special teams.
