Per source, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats have re-signed one of the CFL’s most versatile Canadians in Jackson Bennett. It is a one-year extension through 2021.

The Ottawa product ran a 4.48 laser-timed forty-yard dash at his pro day, which drew an invitation to mini-camp with the New York Giants. He played strong-side linebacker, halfback, cornerback, and safety with the Gee-Gees, making him one of the most well-rounded defenders in the draft.

Bennett was a second-round selection (No. 11 overall) of the Ticats in the 2018 CFL Draft and recorded 11 total tackles and one sack in his rookie season with the team.

The five-foot-eleven, 212-pounder made the switch to running back — his high school position — for the 2019 season. The move was made to enhance the team’s depth behind starter Sean Thomas-Erlington and 2019 draft selection Maleek Irons.

Bennett had quite the stat line for the season, which reflects his versatility — ten total tackles, one forced fumble, eight receptions for 72 yards, and 29 carries for 147 yards and one touchdowns.

The native of Cumberland, Ont. has a bright future with Hamilton on both sides of the ball.
