The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed American receiver Shaq Evans to a one-year contract extension for the 2021 season.

Evans was eligible to become a free agent on February 9, 2021.

The six-foot-one, 210-pound Evans returns to the Riders after a breakout season in 2019 as the go-to target for quarterback Cody Fajardo. Evans caught 72 passes for 1,334 yards receiving and five touchdowns. He was named a CFL all-star for his efforts.

Riders finalize contract with Jason Maas as Saskatchewan’s offensive coordinator

His average of 17.4 yards per catch made him a consistent deep-ball threat and he topped the league with 15 receptions of 30 yards or more.

The 29-year-old California native built off a solid rookie season in which he put up 785 yards on 50 receptions, including 233 yards after catch.

Prior to joining the Riders, Evans was selected by the New York Jets in the fourth round, 115th overall of the 2014 NFL Draft and spent time with the Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Evans stays in Saskatchewan, which is a nice early Christmas present for the citizens of Rider Nation.
