Saskie boys staying put: Riders re-sign local offensive linemen Brendon LaBatte, Dan Clark

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have re-signed two of their starting offensive linemen in Brendon LaBatte and Dan Clark.

Both players were set to become free agents in February 2022 and are now under contract through February 2023.

LaBatte has been with Saskatchewan since the 2012 when he signed with the team as a free agent. He is a six-time CFL all-star and nine-time division all-star who was named the league’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman in 2013.

The native of Weyburn fought through injuries in 2019, starting only six games. When healthy, the 34-year-old is regarded as one the best interior blockers in the CFL. LaBatte has played in 181 career games over 12 CFL seasons, including 112 as a Rider. 

Clark started all 18 regular season games at centre for the Riders in 2019 and was named a CFL all-star for the first time in his career. The 32-year-old first joined Saskatchewan in 2009 following a stint with the Regina Thunder of the Canadian Junior Football League.

LaBatte and Clark helped Saskatchewan win the 101st Grey Cup on home soil in 2013, the fourth championship in team history. The pair of local products will look to help the Riders capture another Grey Cup in 2021 or 2022, the latter of which will be played in Regina.

Saskatchewan has made a number of key re-signing recently, including extensions for Mike Edem, Nick Marshall, and Charbel Dabire.
