Ticats’ draft pick, Canadian kicker JJ Molson signs with Green Bay Packers

Canadian kicker JJ Molson has signed with the Green Bay Packers.

It’s a practice squad contract after he worked our for the Packers in November. Molson went unselected in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Molson appeared in 49 games from 2016 to 2019 at the University of California, Los Angeles, converting 51-of-74 field goal attempts (69 percent) as a Bruin. The six-foot-one, 197-pounder also kicked off 266 times for 12,758 yards (63 yard average) and was awarded UCLA’s Tommy Prothro Award for outstanding special teams play in 2018.

The Montreal native is an eighth-generation descendant of John Molson, the founder of Molson Brewery. Molson was selected in the seventh round, 63rd overall by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 2020 CFL Draft. 

Longtime Green Bay kicker Mason Crosby has made all 16 of his field goal attempts this season, including a long of 57 yards. The Packers have signed Molson as an emergency option.
