Calgary Stampeders’ DL coach Corey Mace raises $32,964 in annual Turkey Drive

They call it the season of giving for a reason.

Calgary Stampeders’ defensive line coach Corey Mace is never hesitant to give back to the community. He recently led his eighth annual Turkey Drive, which strives to help feed families in need.

The event was forced to undergo some logistical changes due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic but still raised an incredible $32,964.

“It’s unfortunate we won’t be able to meet people in person to accept donations and deliver the turkeys to the food banks and other charitable groups as we have in the past but I’m very grateful that we’ve found a way to keep the initiative going,” said Mace prior to the event.

The Stampeders Foundation matched the first $5,000 in donations.

“With everything that has been happening this year, the need is greater than ever,” said Mace. “I’m grateful for this community’s amazing generosity and the Stampeders Foundation’s support to help put food on the table and make the holiday season a little brighter.”

The 35-year-old played six seasons with Calgary (2010-15) following a three-year stint in the NFL. He made 44 career tackles and four sacks in 40 regular season games.

The native of Port Moody, B.C. retired prior to the 2016 season in order to become the team’s defensive line coach, replacing DeVone Claybrooks who had been promoted to the role of defensive coordinator.
