Calgary Stampeders re-sign underrated pass rusher Folarin Orimolade

The pass rush in Cowtown just got better.

Defensive end Folarin Orimolade has re-upped with the Calgary Stampeders, signing a contract extension on Monday. He was set to become a free agent on February 9, 2021.

The 25-year-old had 17 total tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one knockdown over ten games in 2018. He was expected to take on a larger role with the team in 2019, but missed the entire season after suffering a quadriceps injury.

“I want to thank my Lord and savior Jesus Christ for giving me the opportunity to play football, and for healing my knee,” said Orimolade. “I want to also thank the Stampeder coaching staff and the Stampeder front office for sticking with me post-injury. I am super excited to return to the football field after almost two years without playing. I can’t wait to help bring another Grey Cup to the city of Calgary.”

The five-foot-eleven, 234-pound defensive lineman was a key re-addition to the team with incumbent starter Cordarro Law still unsigned for 2021. Chris Casher, Calgary’s other starting defensive end from 2019, left for the B.C. Lions in free agency in February 2020.

“Flo showed great promise during his rookie season and I’m looking forward to seeing him take the next step in his development when we return to the field,” said Stampeders president and general manager John Hufnagel.
