Vanderbilt kicker Sarah Fuller becomes first woman to score in NCAA Power 5 game

Sarah Fuller split the uprights for a historic moment.

Fuller became the first woman to score in an NCAA Power 5 Conference college football game on Saturday for Vanderbilt University against the University of Tennessee. She kicked two extra points for the Commodores versus the Volunteers.

“One of the refs handed me the ball, and I would like to keep it,” Fuller said in her post-game video conference.

The goalkeeper on Vanderbilt’s women’s soccer team was recently asked to join the football team and has dressed for the Commodores last two games. Her first game against Missouri she executed a squib kick-off.

The Power 5 is comprised of the five largest college athletic conferences — the SEC (Southeastern Conference), ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference), Big Ten, Big 12, and Pac-12.

The first woman to score a point in American college football game was Liz Heaston in 1997 for Willamette with two extra points.

Vanderbilt (0-9) lost to Tennessee 42-12, but Fuller’s mark on history officially goes into the record books.
